Hayes Park School

PE and Sports

Meet the team:

Mrs Thomson (PE lead)

Mr Lewis (PSD Coach), Mr Howell-Burton (PSD), Mr Sweeny (Select Dance) and Mrs Lawrence (Teaching Assistant).

At Hayes Park School, we strive to create a culture which inspires an active generation and that sets the foundation of a life-long love of physical activity. We believe that PE is an area of strength and subject we strongly promote; every child should develop physical literacy and this is built through strong foundations in our Early Years .   We provide a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for children to flourish in a wide variety of sports, which are fun and enjoyable. Lessons are taught by teachers and specialist coaches.

As well as our rounded curriculum provision, we have a wide range of teams competing in a plethora of competitions. This includes intra (in school competitions), inter (out of school competitions) and A, B and C competition teams, where possible.   As well as football and netball, this extends to athletics (we take part in the borough athletics competition annually) and to swimming (we hold a school swimming gala and compete in the borough gala annually). We are also active members of the South Hillingdon School Sports Network (our Head Teacher sits on the board) and access a range of sport enrichment sessions, including taster sessions, competitions and festivals.

Our Outdoor Play and Learning programme (OPAL) is transforming lunch times into rich learning experiences, boosting children's physical health, social skills, emotional well-being and cognitive development through freedom, creativity and risk-taking.  It builds muscle and bone strength, improves motor skills and balance and enhances cognitive functions such as problem-solving.  (see this in action below).

Visitors are encouraged into school to inspire our pupils and to highlight the fact that sport is for all.  Over the last few years we have welcomed Saffron Severn (GB gymnast)

We closely monitor the activity levels of our children and provide additional sessions for those who are identified as needing more.  Once curriculum swimming is completed, we offer top-up swimming to enable more lessons for those who need it to reach the expected standard.

International Netball Trip

On the 16th November some of our Year 4 children were chosen to be mascots for the international netball match between England and New Zealand at the Copper Box Arena. We had an amazing time and even saw an England victory! The children were superstars; they asked the netballers some great questions and were brilliant walking out onto court with the players too!
