Packed Lunches

As our school lunches are free, tasty and varied we only expect a small number of children to be accessing packed lunches on a regular basis. We ask that you try, where possible, to adhere to our Food Policy and the nutritional standards and the school Food Trust standards summarised below:

 Packed lunches should include:

• At least one portion of fruit and one portion of vegetables

• Meat, fish or other source of non-dairy protein e.g. lentils, kidney beans, chickpeas, hummus or falafel • Oily fish were possible

• A starchy food such as wholegrain bread, pasta, rice, couscous, noodles, potatoes or cereals

• Dairy products such as milk, cheese, yoghurt, fromage frais or custard (or a dairy alternative)

• Water - still or sparkling (not flavoured)

Packed lunches should avoid:

• Snacks such as crisps. Instead try seeds, vegetable crisps, savoury crackers, breadsticks, popcorn, pretzels, rice cakes

• Confectionery such as chocolate bars, chocolate-coated biscuits and sweets. Instead try cakes and biscuits in moderation (these are allowed but encourage your child to eat these only as part of a balanced meal)

• Meat products such as sausage rolls, individual pies, corned meat and sausages Instead try wraps, pittas, chapatis with a choice of filling.

Here are some fantastic examples of packed lunches for inspiration:

 Allergies

We ask that you do not bring any food items containing nuts to protect those with allergies.

If your child has an allergy of any kind, please inform the school immediately.

Birthdays and Celebrations

There is no expectation for you to send anything to school for your child's birthday. We recognise that birthdays are already costly and we do not want to add any additional burden for our families. We celebrate birthdays weekly in merit assembly by singing to all the children having their birthday that week.

In line with our Healthy Eating Policy we politely ask that if you would like to send something in to school that you do not send in cakes or sweet treats.

Children are also allowed to wear their own clothes to school on , or close to their birthday as well as a birthday badge or birthday accessory.

If you wish to celebrate or acknowledge your child's special day here are some healthy options for you to consider:
